Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to camp, but it’s just one destination in the entire Sierra Nevada. Instead, bring a puffy jacket, get a permit to operate a gas-powered stove with an on-off switch and savor the darkness and the stars.Ĭamping reservations in Tahoe are competitive. They're not allowed under any circumstances, no matter how safe it may seem, like on a beach or in a rock ring. Wood and charcoal fires are not allowed in Desolation Wilderness, Meiss Country or along the Pacific Crest Trail or Tahoe Rim Trail.
